Expert insights at Compliance Forum

The BVRLA’s second Compliance Forum of the year took place earlier this week at Shoosmiths in Birmingham. As ever, the latest changes and developments impacting the regulatory landscape were explored, with a host of expert speakers identifying where technical changes impact BVRLA members and their operations.

The Supreme Court judgement from August shaped the early sessions. Wayne Gibbard, Partner at Shoosmiths, delivered a keynote that explored the potential implications for the industry. He was followed by Luis Hernandez of S&W, who talked about the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Redress Scheme, giving insight into how the FCA is working on the consultation expected in October.

The BVRLA’s Legal and Compliance Director, Shashi Maharaj, then chaired a panel with Luis Hernandez, Wayne Gibbard, and Lynda Gibson of Fleet Alliance. They discussed the terms of the judgement and how the potential redress scheme could impact the industry and BVRLA members.

A further session saw Shashi Maharaj welcome Jason Freeman from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Shashi tabled questions from BVRLA members on the most relevant areas of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCCA).

The Forum finished with Patrick McGovern of S&W and Phillip Garlick of Product Partnerships discussing compliance in financial promotions. The session was full of practical takeaways on best practices and how members can make sure correct procedures are followed.

The final Forum of the year will take place in November, if you would like to attend and you’re not already subscribed, email [email protected].
