If you are a customer who is leasing or financing a vehicle, and you have been told that your vehicle will be assessed using the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Guide, the leasing or finance company should communicate the return standard to you. Both hard-copy and electronic versions (e-Licences) of the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear Guides, including the Standard are available to purchase. Our guides are copyrighted and it is not acceptable to copy them, or to use another BVRLA Member's e-licence.
The BVRLA produces three different Fair Wear and Tear Guides:
- Car: for drivers of contract-hired, leased, and financed cars
- LCV: for drivers and operators of contract-hired, lease, and financed light commercial vehicles
- CV: for drivers and operators of contract-hired, leased, and financed goods vehicles over 3.5t, and minibuses up to 17 seats
The aim of the guides is to provide an industry-wide, accepted standard that defines fair wear and tear when vehicles are returned to a BVRLA member at the end of a lease or finance agreement. The guides also provide advice for best practice in vehicle maintenance and upkeep that will prevent unacceptable wear and tear from occurring.
We also offer electronic versions (e-Licences) of the guides for sale to BVRLA Members. Please contact [email protected] for further information and to see if an e-Licence would be suitable for your membership type.
e-Licences save time and administration resource by not having to send out hard copies to customers. Members can give their customers access to the e-version of the guide throughout the contract period via their own website.
