Department for Transport seeks views on Rental Vehicle Security Scheme

BVRLA rental and commercial vehicle members are being invited to take part in a review of the Government’s Rental Vehicle Security Scheme (RVSS) introduced in December 2018.

The scheme was introduced to increase terrorism awareness and preparedness across the rental sector and mitigate the risk of rental vehicles being used as weapons in acts of terror.

Keen to ensure that the scheme is working well, the Department for Transport is asking members to provide anonymous feedback, views, and possible suggestions for improvement by completing the RVSS review questionnaire.

The questionnaire, which closes on 9 July 2021, provides an opportunity for rental operators to:

  • Provide insight into what works well
  • Provide suggestions as to what could be improved
  • Provide innovative ideas around security measures and security cultures
  • Shape the future of the RVSS

Those who receive an invite to complete the questionnaire from both the BVRLA and the Department for Transport, need to only complete it once.

The Government enlisted the BVRLA to act as an approved partner to monitor and assess compliance against the scheme in November 2019, and since 1 January 2020 assessing compliance has formed part of the BVRLA governance programme for all rental and commercial vehicle members.

Email BVRLA Senior Compliance Officer, Adam Holt with any questions about RVSS compliance.
