BVRLA Fleet grew in 2022, helped by rental return

The BVRLA saw its fleet grow in the face of ongoing vehicle supply challenges in 2022, driven by rental demand returning after two years of pandemic-effected travel. Another area of growth was the company car market, which continues to be a leading driver of the sector’s efforts to decarbonise.

The BVRLA closed 2022 with a record number of members, reaching 1,026.

Amanda Brandon, BVRLA Director of Member Engagement, said: “An overriding theme of 2022 was poor vehicle supply. To see any fleet growth is testament to the strength of our sector and its ability to adapt to changing market conditions.

“This year brings new challenges. Supply will slowly return but the cost-of-living crisis, inflationary pressures and lack of confidence will grow in prominence. Our members are agile, innovative, and resilient, and well placed to make 2023 another successful year.”

Car numbers have seen the biggest volume growth, although van numbers also increased last year. Members confirmed that the 11% year-on-year growth in the overall rental fleet would have been greater but for the issues with vehicle supply.

The company car market continues to see rapid adoption of electric vehicles. Favourable Benefit in Kind tax rates – which the BVRLA helped to secure until 2028 – remain a critical factor in this.
