The V5C Registration Certificate has changed

The DVLA has been issuing the new version of the V5C since 15 April and has reported concerns that people are tearing the incorrect sections instead of using the highlighted perforations.

The main changes to the document are:

  1. The document reference number has moved to the top and the words ‘Don’t share, keep it safe’ have been added.
  2. There is a multi-coloured guidance section at the bottom on the front page.
  3. An enforcement message has been added to the front page to promote vehicle licensing compliance.
  4. The vehicle details have been rearranged to allow room for extra data fields.
  5. Instructions have been simplified.
  6. Change of keeper and change of name or address sections have been separated.
  7. Customers can include contact details.
  8. In Section 6, the new keepers green slip, the name and address fields have been removed to prevent people incorrectly returning it to the DVLA.
  9. Signature boxes have been removed and replaced with declarations.
  10. A document reference number has been added to each section.
  11. Perforations have been changed, with a new larger tear-off portion highlighted in red.

Any questions relating to the new certificate can be emailed to the DVLA’s Corporate Service Team.
