TfL ramp up ULEZ awareness ahead of implementation

Joining BVRLA’s guest bloggers this week is Transport for London’s Project Communications Specialist, Catherine Westoby, who explains what steps are being taken to tackle the capital’s air pollution crisis to improve wellbeing of Londoners.

Catherine is part of the TfL team that is behind making sure that London road users are aware that the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is coming into effect on 8 April 2019.

So far, 2.4 million people have used the TfL vehicle checker to see if they comply with the ULEZ standards and for guidance, including some useful information on what type of vehicles meet the standards.

TfL aim is to ensure that people are aware of the new ULEZ and understand the impact it will have on them, enabling them to make the necessary adjustments to their behaviours and transport choices.

The London Mayor hopes that the introduction of ULEZ will reduce the number of polluting vehicles entering central London and it is anticipated that after one-year, harmful emissions will have been reduced by 45% in central London and 40% in the surrounding areas.
