Suffolk County Council joins the charge!

A fifth local authority has committed to empowering the electric vehicle transition, with Suffolk County Council the latest to sign the BVRLA’s Fleet Friendly Charging Pledge.

The Fleet Friendly Charging Pledge encourages local authorities to sign and commit to:

  • Consider fleet operators and drivers in their charging infrastructure plans and strategies
  • Engage with the fleet sector to understand their EV charging requirements
  • Provide fleet-focused EV charging information and guidance.

The more authorities that sign the pledge, the more suitable the UK’s EV charging infrastructure becomes for fleet users and operators. Only through proactive engagement and cross-sector collaboration can the needs of BVRLA members and their customers be met by local authorities up and down the UK.

Members are encouraged to start conversations with their local authorities today. Through the BVRLA’s Fleet Friendly Charging Index, recently updated to show an improvement on 2023, the respective progress of each region can be seen. Members can see where their local authority is on the journey, with contact details provided to start positive discussions.

The BVRLA’s policy team is on hand to support with any engagements and can be reached at [email protected], while the Fleet Charging Guide provides tangible recommendations to facilitate any conversations.

As an example of its commitment to greener transport, Suffolk County Council and partners are part of an electric vehicle experience day - EVEX2024 - next month. The event, taking place on 11 April at Trinity Park, Ipswich, will feature insightful and informative sessions from leading experts in sustainable transport, for businesses and consumers.

More information on EVEX 2024 can be found on the Ground Transport Group website.
