Skilling up for EV transition

One aspect often overlooked in the transition to zero-emission vehicles is the people who keep them moving. At this year’s Fleets in Charge conference, one of the most vital conversations will focus not on vehicles, but where the sector needs to improve access to the training necessary to upskill the workforce.

There are only a few more days of the ‘Saver’ ticket rate, members are encouraged to take advantage of that this week, and benefit from the reduced rate.

The Supercharging Skills session will explore how the sector can future-proof its workforce amid unprecedented change. Chaired by Vincent St Claire of Fleet Assist, this expert panel brings together voices from across the aftermarket and mobility sectors, with a focus on retention, upskilling, recruitment innovation, and workforce diversity. Insights will come from:

  • Hayley Pells, IMI
  • Paul Binks, European Tyre Enterprises
  • Jenny Patten, Bosch

The session will tackle pressing questions, such as:

  • How real is the skills shortage - and why is it more of an issue for EVs?
  • Are current training schemes keeping pace with the speed of change?
  • What can the industry do to move past outdated stereotypes and attract a more diverse workforce?
  • As BEVs become the norm, do sales teams need to evolve into more consultative, tech-savvy roles?
  • Could connected vehicles unlock a new talent pool - from data science to digital diagnostics?
  • How is AI influencing the aftersales cycle - and is it a threat or a tool?
