Scotland shifts emissions goals

The Scottish Government has announced its decision to abandon the climate change objective of reducing emissions by 75% by 2030, while affirming its commitment to achieving a net zero goal by 2045.

This decision follows a recent report from the independent Climate Change Committee (CCC), which highlighted Scotland's significant lag in meeting the emissions reduction target, rendering it untenable.

Over the past 12 years, the Scottish Government has failed to meet eight of its annual emissions targets.
