Protecting the rental sector from vehicle terrorism

The BVRLA has been instrumental in leading the vehicle rental sector’s response to the emerging and increasingly present threat of vehicles being used as a weapon.

During the past 17 months the association and its members have been working even more closely and with more frequency with law enforcement and government to explore ways of deterring terrorists from using vehicles as weapons.

The BVRLA has been an active supporter of the national ACT Campaign (Action Counters-Terrorism) which encourages vigilance, provides advice and promotes the importance of reporting anything suspicious. The association has expanded its e-Learning Platform to include modules on ‘ACT’ and to further increase counter-terrorism awareness and preparedness across the sector, the BVRLA has developed a suite of bespoke counter-terrorism resources and guidance tailored to the vehicle rental sector, available free-of-charge to all in the sector, not just members.

The association already shares security-related alerts with members who subscribe to the RISC database. To ensure that these important messages get to the right people across our membership, it is asking all members to nominate a recognised security contact for their organisation. This person would act as the focal point for the dissemination of security-related information and be authorised to make decisions relating to security matters.

Having contact details of a named individual will enable the BVRLA to apply best practice helping to protect the sector and its communities.

Members are asked to submit the name, job title, email and mobile number of their nominated security contact to [email protected].
