Plug-in Van Grant Extended

The Government has confirmed that the Plug-in Van and Truck Grants will be extended until at least April 2027, providing certainty for fleets and businesses investing in electric vehicles.

Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood announced the extension yesterday (18 August), recognising the vital role these grants play in helping operators make the switch to cleaner vans and trucks. Current grant levels include discounts of up to £2,500 for small vans, £5,000 for large vans, £16,000 for small trucks, and £25,000 for large trucks. The exact levels for 2026/27 will be confirmed in due course.

This announcement marks another success for the Zero Emission Van Plan, which has made the extension of the grant a top priority. The Zero Emission Van Plan is a joint campaign by the BVRLA, Logistics UK, Recharge UK, the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) and the EV Café.

Alongside the grant extension, the Van Plan has already secured:

  • A new depot charging scheme
  • Support and guidance for local authorities on cross-pavement charging solutions
  • Removal of the 5-hour training requirement for 4.25t vans
  • Permission for 4.25t vans to tow.

Work continues on outstanding issues such as support for the used van market and regulatory alignment for 4.25t vans, including MOT and driver hours rules.
