Members’ influence change to Dart Charge letter

Following feedback from BVRLA members, Highways England are making a change to the Warning Letter that accompanies a penalty charge for the Dartford Crossings in Kent.

Since the start of the Dart Charge scheme, eligible customers, who are receiving their first Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) for their first contravention, are issued with a PCN and accompanying Warning Letter, which BVRLA members felt can cause issues and elongate processing time.

Highways England now propose to instead issue two PCNs. One for non-eligible customers, a second for eligible customers who can still pay a reduced fee. The PCN for eligible customers will contain a small window, informing that they may be able to pay a reduced amount.

This change is anticipated to go live at the beginning of November.
