Gap between EV demand and supply grows

Vehicle supply remains a major barrier to BVRLA members when looking to meet the needs of their customers, as outlined in the association’s latest Business Impact Survey.

The data from July shows that the overall impact of the vehicle shortage is as prevalent as it was when the Survey last ran in March, although the situation has worsened when looking at electric vehicles specifically.

More than half of members (53%) now suggest the supply of BEV cars is an extreme barrier to meeting their customers’ needs (up from 48% in March), while the equivalent value for electric vans has climbed two percentage points to 49%.

The increase in concerns over BEV supply goes against the overall trend of supply concerns remaining flat, suggesting that the gap between EV demand and supply is extending and slowing down the transition to zero emission fleets.
