Competition and Markets Authority expects clarity on websites

Following the Competition and Markets Authority investigation into price comparison websites in the hotel industry the BVRLA has been reviewing the undertakings made by these organisations to see if any information is transferable to BVRLA members.

One area of focus for the CMA was statements about popularity, availability and price. The CMA has requested that these statements are clear and can be backed up by data.

Members may wish to consider this guidance if they are using these types of sales techniques, for example:

  • Deal due to end soon
  • Limited order allocation

If members are using this wording or similar on their websites there should be a clear end date for the deal or details of what the limited order allocation is. In addition, this type of wording should only be used if the statements are true.
