Portsmouth’s category B Clean Air Zone (CAZ) is due to launch on the 29 November 2021. This means that anyone driving an HGV, non-compliant bus, coach, taxi, or private hire vehicle will need to pay a daily charge.
Non-compliant vehicles are ones that:
- Do not meet Euro 6 standards for diesel vehicles
- Do not meet Euro 4 emissions standards for petrol vehicles.
News on the Portsmouth CAZ can be found at the Portsmouth Cleaner Air website.
Elsewhere, Sheffield City Council is deciding on the proposed category C CAZ at a meeting today (26 October). If the decision passes, the council will create a CAZ where the most polluting buses, taxis, vans, coaches and lorries will pay a charge to enter the city centre. Private vehicles will be exempt. Sheffield’s proposed charges are £10 a day for LGVs and taxis, and £50 a day for buses, coaches and HGVs.
