What needs to change to make EV demand match supply?

According to Auto Trader’s ‘The Road to 2030 Report’, used EV demand is on the rise, but not keeping up with supply.

In the first quarter of 2023, supply of used EVs continued to increase with stock levels rising 270% year-on-year. The greater choice and availability in the second-hand market has also stimulated further demand, with levels in March increasing 23% year-on-year.

The Report goes on to highlight that affordable used electric cars are for the first time emerging in the market because of the recent price reductions, with nearly one in four used EVs now under £20k. With supply increasing, consumers will see a growing number of second-hand electric vehicles that meet their budget criteria.

A panel of experts will put the new and used BEV retail markets under the microscope as part of the BVRLA’s Fleets in Charge Conference next month answering questions such as:

  • What needs to change to make demand match supply?
  • How much of an issue is battery health and what is being done to rectify this?
  • What role do used BEVs play in making electrification affordable?

The ‘Retail in Detail’ panel will feature:

  • Abdul Chowdhury of the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles
  • Edmund King, President at the AA
  • Gary Nicholls of Inchcape Retail Limited
  • Martin Miller of EV Experts.
