Weight restrictions at the Rotherhithe Tunnel

On the 4 February 2019, Transport for London (TfL) formally introduced a weight limit restriction for goods vehicles using the Rotherhithe Tunnel in East London.

TfL has been issuing Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to vehicles for about a month and has identified a number of ‘repeat offender’ vehicles that are owned by BVRLA members. Members are advised to remind their customers of this restriction and the need to find an alternative route to avoid PCNs.

Vehicles more than 2 metres (6'6") high, 2 metres (6'6") wide or goods vehicles weighing more than 2 tonnes (gross vehicle weight) are not permitted to travel through the Rotherhithe Tunnel.

The reason for the weight restriction is due to serious safety concerns regarding the tunnel and need for repairs.

Details are on the TFL website.
