Sarah Edwards MP has joined a nationwide call for more electric vehicle charging at UK tourist destinations, lending her support to the Bon VoyCharge campaign during a visit to Tamworth Castle last week.
The MP for Tamworth met campaigners and local stakeholders at the landmark site, signing the Bon VoyCharge campaign car as it tours constituencies and heritage attractions this summer. The initiative, led by the BVRLA with partners across tourism, hospitality, and transport, highlights the need for more destination charging at places people visit and stay, from castles and theme parks to hotels and resorts.
Tourism generates over £30 billion annually for the UK, yet only around 7,500 chargepoints are available at tourism-related sites nationwide. The campaign is calling for practical guidance, cross-sector collaboration, and targeted investment to ensure attractions like Tamworth Castle can play a vital role in boosting EV adoption and supporting regional economies.
Tom McLennan, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the BVRLA, said: “We’re grateful to Sarah Edwards MP for her longstanding engagement on EVs and for recognising the importance of charging at destinations like Tamworth Castle. Local leadership is key to closing the gaps in our national charging network. Destination charging isn’t just about convenience – it’s about unlocking the economic, environmental, and tourism benefits that come with a confident, connected EV network. We look forward to working with Sarah and other MPs to make this vision a reality.”
