New electric and fuel mileage rates

The Government has published the latest Advisory Electric Rate (AER) and Advisory Fuel Rates (AFR)) for business travel reimbursement. The AER was split in September 2025 to acknowledge the cost gap between the public and private electric vehicle charging networks.

From 01 December, the AERs for fully electric cars will be:

  • 7p per mile for home charging (down 1ppm)
  • 14p per mile for public charging.

The AER falls under the same review cycle as the Advisory Fuel Rates (AFR), there are no further changes from 01 September fuel rates. Along with guidance on mileage rate usage, the 01 December figures can be found at: Advisory fuel rates - GOV.UK.

This week, the Government has also announced that the new Nissan LEAF qualifies for the full £3,750 discount for the Electric Car Grant. There are now 39 models of EV eligible for the Grant (Band 1 and Band 2 cars).
