The new legislation, which places greater emphasis on the rights of the individual’s personal data use and introduces harsher financial penalties to businesses for misuse, will be effective from May 2018.The change will represent the biggest overhaul of data protection regulation since 1998 and members are encouraged to get prepared to avoid falling foul of non-compliance.
