DVLA introduces new QR code driving licence check

A new system has been launched by the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency to provide drivers with the ability to share licence details via a quick and easy QR code.

The DVLA believes that as most people have their phone to hand, it will provide a convenient, easy and secure way for drivers to share their licence details when they need to, confirming details such as their entitlement to drive and any endorsements.

The new service is open to GB photocard licence holders and generates a QR code on the driver’s smartphone. The code can be redeemed via the redesigned check driving licence page which activates the user’s webcam on their PC or tablet.

Existing DVLA services allow drivers to share their licence information with third parties by generating a unique, single-use check code. The code lasts for 21 days and it can be redeemed using the check someone’s driving licence service. This service will still be available to users.
