DVLA advice for driver licence checking

The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency has provided advice to the BVRLA following concerns raised by members when trying to get through to the DVLA on the general enquiry lines.

The DVLA is still not operating at full capacity for its telephone services and is frequently finding the services are in high demand. The DVLA is recommending that if members’ customers are struggling to generate a ‘check code’ to verify driving licence details, they use the help chat facility available on the DVLA website page for ‘check code’. This will get the customer in direct contact with a DVLA clerk, who will be able to generate the code for them.

The ‘help chat’ facility is available during the contact centre opening hours which are 09.00hrs to 18.45hrs Monday to Friday and 08.00hrs to 16.00hrs on Saturday.

Following calls from the BVRLA, DVLA has now agreed to allocate additional resource to this facility in order to try and help members and customers.

Any questions or further concerns with regards to DVLA service, contact Director of Fleet Services Amanda Brandon.
