£1.3 million to support pioneering transport projects

The government has launched a £1.3 million competition aimed at revolutionising the transport sector, boosting economic growth, and igniting innovation. The Transport Research and Innovation Grant (TRI) is set to pave the way for transformative advancements.

Delivered by the Connected Places Catapult, this round of TRIG invites organisations and academics to vie for funding of up to £45,000. The scheme champions pioneering concepts in their infancy, fostering collaboration between industry and academia to drive transport improvements nationwide. In alignment with the government's economic growth strategy, TRIG aims to fortify the UK's transport infrastructure while bolstering domestic employment opportunities.

Past TRIG winners have left a mark on the transport landscape, enhancing passenger experiences through a myriad of innovations:

  • A shuttle bus app facilitating rural connectivity
  • The expansion of 5G coverage for seamless sea travel.
  • AI-driven data insights empowering authorities to optimise local transport networks
  • Trials in hydrogen propulsion for greener air and sea travel.
