The government has introduced the Haulage Permits and Trailer Registration Bill as part of its preparations for the UK leaving the EU. The aim is to maintain and develop the existing liberal access for commercial haulage, as part of a wider future partnership.
The Bill will allow the Department for Transport (DfT) to operate a permit and trailer registration scheme for vehicles going abroad.
The DfT are consulting on proposals:
• on how a haulage permits scheme should operate in the future
• for which trailers will require registration
• on how a trailer registration scheme will operate
The consultation runs until 20 June and the BVRLA would like to receive feedback from members on what a trailer registration scheme should look like.
