Transport minister and BVRLA discuss used EVs

How to make the used electric vehicle market a success was the focus of a round table between the Minister of State for Transport, the BVRLA and other sector representatives last week.

Taking place as part of the CENEX LCV industry tradeshow, the BVRLA was among those invited to present to Jesse Norman MP and share the views of its membership. Participants universally agreed that the used EV market has incredible importance to the sector and will play a vital role in a successful transition to cleaner, greener vehicles.

Minister Norman and his team shared an update of what the government is already doing in this space and where work is ongoing. Ultimately the meeting was called to hear about where more action can be taken to keep the market on track in the coming years. Industry representatives were invited to share their concerns and collectively discuss the solutions that government and industry can collaborate on to deliver.

Within its update, the BVRLA looked at the subject of battery health. Consumer data shows that concerns over the future performance of an EV’s battery are creating a barrier to adoption. Similar concerns in the fleet sector also have an impact on residual values.

Through its participation in the OZEV-hosted working group on used EVs, the BVRLA is seeking to fully understand the subject of battery degradation and ensure that drivers are educated as necessary to make informed decisions.

As part of this project, the BVRLA is conducting a piece of work on battery health testing and certification provision in the UK and would appreciate information from members.

If you are already working with battery health suppliers, the BVRLA would like to hear from you, email [email protected].
