The Secretary of State for Business and ministers in the Department for Transport have been among the senior individuals to change as part of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s first major reshuffle.
Lilian Greenwood MP is no longer the Future of Roads Minister within DfT, having been moved to an alternative department within Government. The Minister has become an active supporter of the BVRLA and its campaigns in recent months, something the association is seeking to build on with the minister picking up this brief.
There has also been a significant change in the Department for Business and Trade. Peter Kyle MP is now Secretary of State, replacing Jonathan Reynolds who becomes Chief Whip. Mr Kyle was formerly the Secretary of State of Science, Innovation and Technology.
Elsewhere in the department, Blair McDougall MP has been announced as the new Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Business and Trade.
The reshuffle comes ahead of the Labour Party Conference later this month, where the BVRLA will be present to discuss its ongoing policy priorities and the needs of members with MPs and Labour representatives.
Many of the conversations taking place at the Conference will be looking ahead to the Autumn Budget, now confirmed to be delivered on Wednesday 26 November. The BVRLA is working on its formal submission to the Government ahead of the budget, members wishing to feed into the activity should email [email protected].
