The Government wants to make swift progress to support and protect motorists while parking, without penalising private operators who run their car parks well.
The parking industry’s two trade associations recently published a single industry code of practice. It replaces the two different codes that were previously in place. It is widely felt that more needs to be done to raise standards and to hold parking operators to account.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is setting out proposals for achieving this through both a new code of practice, aimed at further driving up standards, and a new robust compliance framework for parking operators that will gives motorists trust in the system.
While the Government considers these proposals on the best way to raise standards, they remain open minded about what course of action to take. The BVRLA will be working closely with government to ensure rental and leasing companies are recognised in the framework and there is consistency in processes from private parking operators.
