In December 2018, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) announced that all domestic electric vehicle (EV) charge points installed under the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) must be smart from 1 July 2019.
There are technical requirements for a charge point model to be eligible and OLEV have identified a total of 21 charge point models that will be eligible for the scheme from 1 July with several more applications under review. OLEV has a published list of approved models and manufacturers.
The EVHS has helped deliver domestic charge points to consumers since 2014, supporting the installation of over 70,300 charge point units to date. From 1 July 2019, any charge points not approved as smart will no longer be eligible for the EVHS.
Charge point manufacturers who have charge points currently approved under the EVHS must undertake our re-approval process to confirm the models meet the new requirements. Manufacturers must also ensure their approved installers will be in possession of up-to-date authorisation certificates for any charge points applied for after 1 July 2019.
