Have your say on Automated Vehicles

This consultation builds on three years of work, including two previous public consultations. The BVRLA is calling on members to join its Future Mobility and Data Working Group and formulate the BVRLA’s consultation response. On 2 February 2021, the Law Commission will be attending the Working Group to run a session to discuss the key themes of the project.

The Working Group will also discuss the Department for Transport’s Future of Transport Rural Strategy Call for Evidence.

The Law Commission’s first and second consultations looked at safety assurance, allocating legal responsibility, and licensing Automated Vehicles (AVs) for passenger services and public transport.

This consultation will explore themes such as the meaning of self-driving, safety and the user and fleet operators’ responsibility. Liability and data access will be key issues addressed. Both these issues have significant implications for the rental, leasing and fleet sector and its essential the association takes the opportunity to inform the debate from an early stage.

The Law Commission aims to publish its final report and recommendations in the last quarter of 2021.
