Government consults on preventing future trailer tragedy

The Government is consulting on future legislation to create an information sharing power for the Home Office, the National Crime Agency, police forces and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs to acquire trailer registration data from the DVLA’s trailer registration scheme.

This initiative follows the incident in October 2019 when 39 Vietnamese nationals were found dead in a refrigerated trailer. The Home Office is asking if people agree with data being shared in this way to prevent similar tragedies occurring again in the future. The consultation closes on Monday 11 October. Members who have any questions or would like to provide feedback can contact [email protected] or [email protected].
