Government consults on clocking

The Department for Transport has used a consultation on the annual testing of tractors to ask a question on vehicle clocking.

The Department for Transport has used a consultation on the annual testing of tractors to ask a question on vehicle clocking.

Buried on page 27 of the consultation on introducing roadworthiness testing for fast tractors, the DfT asks "Do you consider that existing legislative provision is sufficient to tackle the issue of clocking? If not, please give your reasons".

The BVRLA will be responding to the consultation in due course, and would welcome members' views on the matter. The association has long called for mileage adjustment companies to be regulated or licenced as it believes this would help protect leasing companies who may inadvertently sell a vehicle that has had its mileage adjusted by a lessee.
