Further clarification sought on Plug-in price cap

Following last week’s published definition of what should be included and excluded when determining a vehicle’s price for the £50,000 Plug-in Car Grant “price cap”, the BVRLA has been seeking further clarity.

Members have been contacting the association asking whether the new “price cap” definition applies to the calculation of “purchase price” for all plug-in grants.

The answer is no, and there are now two separate price definitions being used by OLEV:

For “purchase price” as required for the calculations across all plug-in grants, please use the one in the OLEV plug-in portal guidance. This has not changed, and dealers should have been doing this already.

For the “price cap” used to determine a car’s eligibility for the Plug-in Car Grant, please use the definition published in the news story on 8 April: Updated price definition for Plug-in car grant

The BVRLA continues to seek clarification on what counts as an “option fitted by the manufacturer or dealer affecting the powertrain/ non-standard option fitted by the manufacturer or dealer which does not relate to the powertrain” and will share any further guidance it receives.
