Fines for speeding abroad on the increase

Members are reporting an increase in the number of fines they are receiving from abroad. These are normally speeding fines and are enforced via a cross border arrangement between EU member states.

The BVRLA’s advice is not to try and transfer liability for them, but to alert your customer to the fine and give them a limited time in which to come back to you if they dispute it. Then either dispute the claim on their behalf or pay the fine and recharge it to your customer provided your contract permits.

It is not clear what will happen with these fines once the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.
