The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has published a revised Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, which provides those who operate and maintain vehicles over 3.5 tonnes with guidance on looking after vehicles.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has published a revised Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, which provides those who operate and maintain vehicles over 3.5 tonnes with guidance on looking after vehicles.

Some of the key areas which have been updated include:
• A new section on IT for vehicle maintenance systems
• A new section on exhaust emissions which highlights the importance of correctly maintaining the vehicle’s emissions control system
• Removing the inspection frequency graph – This has been replaced by a table with examples of time-based frequency for various operating conditions, using case studies so that operators can take a proactive approach to inspection frequency management

Gareth Llewellyn, DVSA Chief Executive, outlined the purpose of the guide: “This guide provides you with best-practice advice on the responsibilities that an operator or driver has to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles. It also covers what you are legally required to do and gives information on where to seek additional help, including technical assistance or training.”

The Guide to maintaining roadworthiness can be accessed here via the Safe Driving for Life website, produced in partnership with the DVSA.
