Digital tacho for overseas travel from next year

From 31 December 2024, all international road transport vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes or more must switch to the latest smart tachograph. The change is to allow improved tracking and safer roads when vehicles are travelling outside the UK. This also includes vehicles equipped with an analogue or digital non-smart tachograph.

Whilst the deadline is end of 2024, it is likely that slots for upgrades at tachograph centres will be hard to come by towards the end of the year. Members may wish to consider getting this done sooner rather than later for vehicles which regularly travel outside the UK.

The UK has not implemented this legislation for vehicles on UK roads so there is no need to upgrade vehicles which aren’t travelling abroad.
