The Summit, which was opened by the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, was attended by over 4,000 people including speakers from vehicle manufacturing, industry bodies, environmental organisations and other specialists from across automotive – all keen to play a role in driving cleaner growth.
Prime Minister May used the Summit to outline her ambitions for the UK to become a global leader in the manufacture and adoption of electric vehicles.
The BVRLA has been in contact with government officials to call for a change to the company car tax regime as a way of incentivising the take-up of low-emission vehicles. By reducing the tax rate for electric company cars to 2% a year earlier than planned, the Government could accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles within the UK.
Later this month the BVRLA will be publishing its Treasury budget submission on company car tax ahead of the Chancellor’s statement this autumn.
