Accessibility standards to be set for EV charge points

The Government is working with the charity sector to develop a set of accessibility standards to allow disabled drivers to easily identify which public charge points are suitable for their needs.

Guidance will consider aspects such as kerb height, adequate space between bollards and whether charge points are of a height suitable for wheelchair users.

The standards will provide industry and drivers with a new clear definition of ‘fully accessible’, ‘partially accessible’ and ‘not accessible’ public EV charge points.

Transport Minister Rachel Maclean confirmed that the guidance, commissioned by the Department for Transport, will be developed in partnership with national disability charity Motability and the British Standards Institution (BSI). It is expected to be ready by Summer 2022.
