Fleet and business sales accounted for the majority (50.7%) of the 462,517 new car registrations in September, while registrations of diesel and petrol cars grew 4.12% and 12.32% respectively.
It comes as the Finance & Leasing Association (FLA) revealed its August figures, which showed that point-of-sale consumer new car finance was up 8% by volume and 11% by value.
