Under the proposals, only electric vehicles will be permitted within the Zone from 2020, and plans include expanding the zone to include the entire city centre from 2035.
Oxford has been leading the way in the fight against harmful emissions for some time, launching its Low Emission Zone in Oxford city centre in 2014. The zone, which requires buses to be low-emitting vehicles, was the first of its kind outside London and won the Local Authority Air Quality Initiative of the Year at the National Air Quality Awards in 2015.
A consultation relating to the Zero Emission Zone proposal has been launched today (16 October 2017) seeking views on the speed of implementation, the vehicle types and roads affected. The consultation closes on 26 November.
