London Mayor’s car scrappage scheme

Ahead of the expansion of the capital’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), the London Mayor has announced a new car scrappage scheme for Londoners on low incomes and those with disabilities.

Motorists can apply for up to £1,000 for scrapping a motorcycle or moped and £2,000 for scrapping a car. Alongside this, eligible applicants will be able to take advantage of benefits such as a year’s free membership of Santander cycles for journeys of up to 30 minutes.

Zipcar has agreed to match fund the mayor’s scheme by providing driving credit to the value of up to £2,000 to a Zipcar account which could fund over 200 hours of driving.

The new £25m scheme will run alongside the existing £23m fund for micro businesses, sole traders and charities who want to scrap older and uncompliant vans.

The BVRLA is arranging a roundtable event with Transport for London (TfL) next month to review the progress of the van scrappage scheme and to explore opportunities for BVRLA members to take part. For further information, please email [email protected].

Further information on the scrappage scheme can be found on the TfL website.
