HMRC will keep the AER under review

The BVRLA and the Association of Fleet Professionals recently met with HMRC officials to discuss the need for reform of the existing Advisory Electricity Rate process.

The two industry bodies have come together to highlight to policymakers that the current 4 pence per mile rate, which remains unchanged since 2018, is no longer reflective of real-world conditions.

A number of recommendations have been forwarded in a joint paper submitted to HMRC last month.

HMRC thanked the two industry bodies for their views and said that it always carefully considers issues raised by industry stakeholders.

HMRC confirmed that it will continue to keep the Advisory Electric Rate under review, to ensure they are up to date with the costs incurred by drivers.
