Greater Manchester CAZ confirmed

The ten Greater Manchester local authorities have approved the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan, which includes a category C charging Clean Air Zone (CAZ).

The CAZ will be introduced in two phases:

• Monday 30 May 2022 for HGVs, buses, hackney carriages and private hire vehicles not licensed in Greater Manchester.

• Thursday 1 June 2023 for LGVs, minibuses, coaches and Greater Manchester-licensed hackney carriages and private hire vehicles.

Vehicles that do not meet emission standards will pay a daily charge to travel in the CAZ. Private cars, motorbikes and mopeds are not included.

Eligible vehicle owners with a non-compliant vehicle will be able to apply for grants and finance options through the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan Financial Support Scheme, set to launch for HGVs on 30 November 2021, and all other vehicle types at end January 2022.

To help promote awareness of CAZs amongst employees and customers, and to highlight the merits of rental and leasing to those requiring a cleaner CAZ-compliant vehicle, members can request co-branded versions of the BVRLA’s free-to-access digital, social and printed communication resources

A new vehicle and financial support checker tool will be added to the cleanairgm.com website soon to help impacted groups understand their options.
