In 2015 the DVLA abolished the paper counterpart which accompanied photocard style driving licences. The counterpart no longer holds legal status and is not updated with penalty points by the DVLA or the courts. This does not impact licences issued in Northern Ireland by the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA).
