Customers failing to pay for fuel

BVRLA members are receiving a growing number of letters from the British Oil Security Syndicate, the trade body for fuel retailers, attempting to recover fuel debts owed by motorists driving rented or leased vehicles.

BVRLA members are receiving a growing number of letters from the British Oil Security Syndicate, the trade body for fuel retailers, attempting to recover fuel debts owed by motorists driving rented or leased vehicles.

Those members in receipt of such letters can forward them on to customers to give them the opportunity to respond directly. Alternatively, customer details can be provided if your contract allows.

Although it is a criminal offence to drive away from the forecourt without paying for fuel, these cases tend to be dealt with as a civil matter and resolved quickly.

Any questions should be directed to BVRLA Legal and Policy Executive, Amanda Brandon.
