Who should attend?

Aimed at sales and customer facing teams within a dealership environment who interact daily with customers interested in Electric Vehicles.  It will also provide useful insights for staff in all other non-technical dealership departments  to provide an enhanced user experience in the provision of EVs – throughout the customer journey.

Course Content

Structured in five complementary modules, the course will cover the following areas : -

Module 1 – Scale of the UK EV Landscape

  • What EVs are available now ? What is your competition ?
  • What’s Coming in 2023
    • Cars and LCVs
  • Know your EV customer
    • Removing “Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt”
    • How to tune the mindset of a customer into EVs
    • Dealing with objections such as “they cost too much”, “the charging landscape isn’t developed enough” and “range anxiety”
  • Giving your customer the full picture
    • Range ( what does your customer really need to know, over and above what the stated range is?
    • Charge speeds ( what does your customer need to know about charge curves, why charge speeds are not always achieved)

Module 2 – Driving an EV. What will your customer want to know?

  • How to plan a journey (and where to charge) 
  • Charging Infrastructure
  • Lights on an EV dashboard your customer may be unfamiliar with
  • What are they like to drive?
  • Regenerative braking – what’s that ? How does it work ?
  • What impacts range on the vehicle?   (and what doesn’t?)
    • Tips and techniques to maximise range
  • Clean Air Zones

Module 3 – Charging an EV – how can you prepare your customer to comfortable manage EV charging

  • What do Kw and KwH mean?
  • Types of connectors
  • Difference between ‘AC’ and ‘DC’ charging
  • Maximum charge rates for EVs
  • What is a ‘charge curve’?
  • Public charging companies
    • Who’s good and who’s not?

Module 4 – Operational Considerations. How can you help your customer to ‘live’ with an EV?

  • Breaking down in an EV
  • What if the 12v battery goes flat?
  • What affects battery health
    • And how long does battery last?
  • Maintenance on an EV
  • Tyres – and tyre pressures

Module 5 – Starting your customer off on the right path in their EV

  • Test drives – what would your customer love to know from you ?
  • Handover experience – what does ‘gold standard’ look like?
  • Taking an EV abroad

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, attendees will :

  • Have the confidence to communicate with customers to support them in their transition to EV
  • Explain how to best equip customers with the fundamentals of  EV driving
    • To avoid a poor customer experience where the driver wasn’t fully educated when they took the car
  • Have awareness of the current and developing EV market
  • Understand the mindset of a customer who is new to EVs and know how to effectively deal with their questions and fears
  • Provide a class leading customer experience when selling EVs
  • Be able to sell EVs with confidence

Trainer

Jon Burdekin has 30 years’ experience in the UK leasing and fleet finance industry, having previously worked for such major leasing companies as Alphabet GB Ltd and GE Capital Fleet Services.  His 15 year career with Alphabet incorporated roles as Account Manager, Head of Account Management, Head of Consulting Services and Head of Product Management as well as leading the consultancy division to add key value differentiation and technical innovation.

Client relationships that Jon had direct responsibility for included McDonald’s, Shell, Oracle, Royal and Sun Alliance, Royal London Mutual Assurance and the BBC. By managing such large vehicle fleets, he has gained extensive knowledge in all aspects of fleet management, including vehicle acquisition methods, cost control, driver risk, and vehicle choice list analysis.

A subject matter expert in the adoption of electric vehicles into company fleets, Jon also has deep levels of knowledge in the tax efficient alternatives to company vehicle funding and Grey Fleet Management.

Jon has run his own fleet consultancy business since January 2019 with the aim of helping businesses manage their vehicle fleets more effectively and futureproofing the fleet by implementing the transition to 100% electric by 2030

Cancellation Policy 
Requests for cancellation of a training course booking must be received in writing via email to [email protected] for the attention of the Learning and Development Professional. Requests for cancellation received more than 30 days prior to the course start date incur an administrative charge for the processing of the refund at the rate of 25% of the course fee. Requests for cancellation received more 15-30 days prior to the course start date incur an administrative charge for the processing of the refund at the rate of 50% of the course fee. There is no refund on cancellations made 14 days or less prior to the course start date as there is an impact on other delegates who have booked to attend and could result in the course being cancelled overall.

Postponements
Postponement of attendance from one course to a later course can be requested in writing as per the cancellations policy above to training @bvrla.co.uk. Requests to postpone more than 30 days prior to the course start date will incur an administration charge of £35 + VAT. Requests to postpone more 15-30 days prior to the course will incur an administration charge of £70 + VAT. Requests to postpone 14 days or less prior to the course will be treated as a cancellation, with no refund payable.

Substitutions
You can request the substitution of a delegate for another in writing as per the cancellations policy above to [email protected]. There is no charge for this. Requests for substitution must be made no later than one business day prior to the scheduled course start date.
