The BVRLA recognised its Industry Champions at a reception in Speakers House, Westminster last night (Monday 17 Nov). Bringing together senior representatives from across the association’s membership with Members of Parliament, the inaugural Industry Champions reception highlighted the active, ‘always on’ programme through which the BVRLA works to represent members and be the voice of the industry.
Addressing attendees, Toby Poston, BVRLA Chief Executive said: “Since its launch, the Industry Champions programme has made a great start in amplifying the voice of every member up and down the country. The need for this programme is greater than ever. In a short period of time, we have seen a change of Government, economic pressures ratchet up, and the future of our sector thrown into the spotlight.
“Our policy and campaigning work remain on an upward trajectory. The quality and frequency of conversations we are having where it matters increases year on year. Be it with industry stakeholders, the Department of Transport, or 10 Downing Street, the BVRLA’s voice gets ever louder and more credible. We owe a lot of that progress to our Industry Champions, our members that commit time, insights and data to strengthen our strategy nationally and make it land at a local level.”
As part of the reception, the BVRLA handed out four awards in recognition of the individuals and firms that have led the way in informing and amplifying the association’s campaigns.
- Industry Champion – Firm: Zenith
- Industry Champion – Individual: Ross Gardner, Lloyds Banking Group
- Industry Champion – Member of Parliament: Sarah Edwards, MP for Tamworth
- Industry Champion – Decarbonisation: Sarah Gray, Dawsongroup vans
The Industry Champions programme is designed to create deeper links between BVRLA members and the association’s policy and campaigning work. It is open to all BVRLA members to participate in and spans all parts of the policymaking process. Through committees, working groups and direct engagement with the BVRLA, Industry Champions actively support the development of policy asks and inform how the BVRLA can best represent member needs.
The programme also helps to facilitate meetings at a local level with Members of Parliament. Meetings enable local issues to be tabled and solutions explored, while also helping to further the discussion of national, or industry-wide challenges that the MP can advocate for in Parliament.
