The BVRLA and its members have continued to engage with MPs across the UK on the proposed electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) scheme and other issues affecting the transition to zero-emission mobility.
As part of the BVRLA’s Industry Champions programme, Jurni recently welcomed Liberal Democrat MP Calum Miller to its Oxfordshire office. Discussions covered the proposed eVED pay-per-mile model, the importance of a practical future road taxation system, pressures within the used EV market, and the need for long-term certainty on incentives to support business investment. The meeting also highlighted challenges facing organisations seeking to adopt electric minibuses, including schools and community groups.
The BVRLA’s policy team has also continued its direct engagement with parliamentarians. On 18 June, the association’s Tax and Economics Lead Zohra Chagani met with the Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dunbartonshire to discuss the findings of recent BVRLA analysis examining the potential constituency-level impact of eVED. These discussions follow earlier meetings with Labour MPs in Brighton and Hemel Hempstead and a growing number of parliamentary questions submitted on eVED-related issues following engagement from BVRLA members.
The association continues to highlight concerns that eVED is the wrong tax at the wrong time and is working to ensure policymakers understand the potential impact on drivers, businesses and the wider EV transition. Members have played a key role in this activity, with outreach to local MPs helping to raise awareness of the issue in Parliament and across constituencies.
Members who have not yet contacted their local MP are encouraged to take part in the BVRLA's campaign activity. Those interested in joining the Industry Champions programme can contact [email protected] for further information.
