Certificate in Fleet Management

The BVRLA's Professional Fleet Consultant Development Programme is run by the Institute of Car Fleet Management (ICFM) and is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). It provides a nationally recognised professional qualification upon successful completion - the Certificate in Fleet Management and Associate membership of the ICFM.

This programme has been designed to give participants an insight into current best practice for effective fleet management. It will help participants to develop and deliver customised fleet solutions to prospective and existing clients. And this, in turn, will enable organisations to deliver a superior value-added service to their customers.

Course content

This programme is delivered through two modules, each lasting two days and with an interval of between four and six weeks between each module. This interval allows sufficient time for the completion of the first stage of the competence assessment process. The delivery method includes a mixture of classroom and work-based assignments.

Module 1: Covers the principles of fleet management, with a focus on; understanding the role and responsibilities of a fleet manager, the principles of asset and risk management, the influence of clients’ stakeholders, company culture and market segmentation. It also looks at wider concerns influencing fleet choice, including the environment.

Module 2: Explores the delivery of fleet solutions. It studies the various budgetary and taxation considerations; key acquisition and disposal options and supplier management; and the relevant legal and health and safety obligations.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the programme, particpnats will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Fleet Manager in a client organisation and match this to client expectations of a fleet consultant. 
  • Respond to the differing requirements typically found in the different segments of the marketplace, for example, Small and Medium Enterprises, Local Government etc. 
  • Reflect the culture of the client organisation. 
  • Incorporate the requirements of stakeholders and other interested parties, for example, HR Management, Finance, Operations and Health and Safety etc.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of all key elements included in a comprehensive vehicle fleet policy and driver instructions.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the range of issues and potential needs in the areas of acquisition, finance, fleet administration and law. 
  • Match the available solutions to the potential or actual needs of the client organisation.

 

Assessment

Accreditation: The programme has Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) accreditation as an endorsed programme (B003).

Competence assessment: This takes the form of a two part role-based assignment – the first part for completion before attendance on the second module and part two for completion within one month of this module.

Trainer

Peter Eldridge has enjoyed a successful fleet industry career, which commenced in 1963 and has encompassed almost every aspect of customer service and technical support. Senior management positions within the franchised motor trade, major contract hire & leasing and accident management companies followed. Peter is a Director of the ICFM and has been actively involved with the organisation since 1993. He is regarded as one of their strongest lead tutors and regularly provides training support for the BVRLA Professional Fleet Consultant Programme.

£1850 + VAT  (Members only)

There is the option to pay in two instalments - £1000 plus VAT for Module 1 and £850 for Module 2. All fees must be paid for ahead of the course dates.

Cancellation Policy 
Requests for cancellation of a training course booking must be received in writing via email to training@bvrla.co.uk for the attention of the Learning and Development Professional. Requests for cancellation received more than 30 days prior to the course start date incur an administrative charge for the processing of the refund at the rate of 25% of the course fee. Requests for cancellation received more 15-30 days prior to the course start date incur an administrative charge for the processing of the refund at the rate of 50% of the course fee. There is no refund on cancellations made 14 days or less prior to the course start date as there is an impact on other delegates who have booked to attend and could result in the course being cancelled overall.

Postponements
Postponement of attendance from one course to a later course can be requested in writing as per the cancellations policy above to training @bvrla.co.uk. Requests to postpone more than 30 days prior to the course start date will incur an administration charge of £35 + VAT. Requests to postpone more 15-30 days prior to the course will incur an administration charge of £70 + VAT. Requests to postpone 14 days or less prior to the course will be treated as a cancellation, with no refund payable.

Substitutions
You can request the substitution of a delegate for another in writing as per the cancellations policy above to training@bvrla.co.uk. There is no charge for this. Requests for substitution must be made no later than one business day prior to the scheduled course start date.
