Your views: Consumer Contract Regulations

The BVRLA would appreciate members’ input in preparing a formal response to the Government’s review of the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013.

This is an opportunity for BVRLA members to influence a change in the regulations, in particular, requirements that cause unnecessary administrative burden.

Members may recall that these regulations govern;

  • the information which a trader must give to a consumer before and after making a sale,
  • how that information should be given,
  • the right for consumers to change their minds when buying at a distance or off-premises.

The regulations also ban practices such as additional payments which appear as a default option and requirements for customers to pay more than the basic phone rate for post-contract customer helplines.

The Government is consequently seeking views on;

  • the requirements imposed by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 and how they are working in practice,
  • whether the intended objectives have been achieved,
  • further views on the wider context.

The Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 consultation closes on 1 May 2019.

Members are asked to contact Senior Policy Advisor Jinmi Macaulay with their views by 1 April 2019.
