Use of hand-held phone while driving law change

From 25 March 2022, motorists using a hand-held mobile phone for any purpose will be breaking the law.

This includes taking photos or videos, scrolling through playlists, or playing games while in the driving seat. Anyone caught using their hand-held device while driving could face a fine of up to £1,000, 6 points on their licence or even a full driving ban.  

An £800,000 THINK! campaign informs drivers about the new law. The Hands on the Wheel? Hands off the phone campaign will run across media channels and on broadcast radio in England and Wales over the coming weeks to deter drivers from the temptation from use their phone when behind the wheel.
